Tough question, hard to just say yes or no but the more i think about it, the more i think the answer is yes. This answer may not be what you expected from me but what if our perception of the “american church” or the “church” for that matter is what is off.
Let me explain. I just watched a documentary on the divisions of the christian church. I instantly realized that although one third of the world’s population claim the title christian, the Body of Christ, or the Church, is a much different figure.
Maybe while the so called american church, sick with self, is preaching their “other gospel”, the Church, the Remnant, is and has always preached the true Gospel. And what we need to do as the Church is share the Good News with the lost, realizing that this commission may mean the Body reaching out and into the “american church” as well as the highways and the biways.

This is what these dialogues are supposed to do, make us think beyond the knee jerk reaction that we so easily fall into. The question itself is flawed if you think about it. Is there an American church? Well, yes and no. There is the church in America, and there are Americans who are the church, but there is not really an American church, a Canadian church, a Mexican church, or any other apart from the one true church, the body of Christ.
There is only ONE church, just as the scripture in Ephesians 4 tells us there is one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father. That means there is only one church and one gospel.
The church, the true body of Christ, which is NOT determined by a label or denomination, or lack of denomination. The church is determined by the Spirit of God dwelling in those who have by faith reckoned themselves crucified with Christ and therefore raised in His life.
Bottom line, the true church, the people called out who are truly His, will preach the one and only gospel. How do we know who they are? Watch and listen for their fruit.
Agree or disagree, are you thinking yet?

Well, when i think about this question I am reminded of anothe question. Is America a Christian nation? I agree with Caleb concerning the “American Church.” What would be considered an American church? We are vastly diverse in our thoughts and opinions of theology and escotology that it’s no wonder that some many are lost and confused. We need to embrace the “Body of Christ” and allow that to be our identity marker. There can be no division among the people if we belong to one Body, to one church.
I had thought about that once when thinking about the multi-denominations we have. I think about the answers people give when asked “what church do you belong to? What religion are you? wouldn’t it be nice to just say, “The Church” and “Christian,” but we give ourselves labels and miss the mark. The Gospel is what matters and yes, it is preached, but in what concentration? stay golden…
